The Guide for Back-to-School Onboarding

Updated: Jun 1, 2021

Although students are now back in classrooms, life is still far from normal at schools. With the logistics and effort needed to run a mess testing programme and keep results logged, and the effort to ensure rules are being followed, processes have been made more complicated. Onboarding is no exception to this. It is still possible, however, to have a swift, secure system for pre-employment background checks on employees that emphasises safer recruitment, while not ignoring more pressing things.

1. Save Time by Doing Everything in One Place

The pre-employment compliance process can be a long one. Uploading the same information for each individual check can take an unnecessary amount of time.

By using a cloud-based system that moves all checks into one place, time and energy can be saved. Information only has to be inputted once, you can track the status of a check, receiving the result before the paper certificate arrives, and bespoke packages mean you do not need to worry about whether you have requested the correct checks or not.

The other main time-saver of a cloud-based platform is putting the onus on the worker to upload their own documentation and personal information. This streamlines the entire compliance process by cutting out the time it takes to receive the appropriate documentation. The security measures on such platforms (such as facial recognition technology) ensure that the worker is who they say they are, giving you piece of mind that you are hiring the right sort of employee.

2. Minimise face-to-face Contact

With all the work being done in schools currently regarding testing on the premises and ensuring home tests are conducted and recorded, it is imperative that the hiring and compliance process does not undo this good work.

Having a remote and paperless process is therefore essential. From putting the onus on the worker to submit their own information to not having to wait for a paper certificate, it is possible to have a remote onboarding process.

There are other, unexpected, benefits of having a completely remote compliance process. Our research shows that 40% of workers submit their information within 24 hours, and over half of DBS checks are fully completed within 5 working days. Having all information stored in one, paperless, place can also make the prospects of audits or accessing information quickly in an emergency far less daunting.

3. Make the Process Easier

In short, although on the face of it onboarding should be more difficult than ever before, it does not have to be so.

There are systems in place that can both guide the worker through the information submission process, reducing the likelihood of error, and also lay everything out for you so information is easy to find, updates are easy to make and knowing what checks to conduct is easy to find out.
